ABOUT BAYANAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

"A CHILD - FRIENDLY SCHOOL"

The school is a significant personal and social environment in the lives of its students. A child-friendly school ensures every child an environment that is physically safe, emotionally secure and psychologically enabling.
Teachers are the single most important factor in creating an effective and inclusive classroom. Children are natural learners, but this capacity to learn can be undermined and sometimes destroyed. A child-friendly school recognizes, encourages and supports children's growing capacities as learners by providing a school culture, teaching behaviors and curriculum content that are focused on learning and the learner. The ability of a school to be and to call itself child-friendly is directly linked to the support, participation and collaboration it receives from families. Child-friendly schools aim to develop a learning environment in which children are motivated and able to learn. Staff members are friendly and welcoming to children and attend to all their health and safety needs.

A rights-based, child-friendly school has two basic characteristics:

  • It is a child-seeking school — actively identifying excluded children to get them enrolled in school and included in learning, treating children as subjects with rights and State as duty-bearers with obligations to fulfill these rights, and demonstrating, promoting, and helping to monitor the rights and well-being of all children in the community.

  • It is a child-centered school — acting in the best interests of the child, leading to the realization of the child's full potential, and concerned both about the "whole" child (including her health, nutritional status, and well-being) and about what happens to children — in their families and communities - before they enter school and after they leave it.

MISSION

BAYANAN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL : LOOKING BACK

Like most of the public schools in the pre-war and early post-liberation era in the Philippines, Bayanan Elementary School, then known as Mambog  Elementary School, was founded by men and women with passion to education for their children.

In 1937, the owners of nearby subdivisions donated a 5,768 sq.m  lot  to be used as a school site. It was then that Mambog Elementary School was established. The school started with a four-room building which housed Grades I-IV classes only.
Due to lack of funds for the construction of another school building and, with the rising number of pupils attending school, Benito Sacramento and Guillermo Javier ,landowners/ farmers, whose houses stood adjacent to the school, offered their “silong” (ground floor) to be used as temporary classrooms for Grades V and VI classes.
Through the initiative of Barangay Officials, Barangay Bayanan was formed. Thus, Bgy. Mambog was separated from Barangay. Bayanan. It was then that Mambog Elementary School was renamed Bayanan Elementary School in 1964.

For the past decades, the school has produced quality graduates who became leaders and movers in the fields of agriculture, medicine, engineering, education, among others.

The influx of urban settlers changed the basically agricultural community to a semi-urban one. Farms were converted into subdivisions, and many families from squatters area particularly from the suburbs of Metro Manila, were driven to Bacoor, Cavite to settle.
Mild-mannered and low-toned voices of the natives gave way to aggressive and street-smart migrant pupils. Teachers had to find innovative strategies that will meet most, if not all, of the pupils’ needs.
Along with the challenges faced by the teachers came also the problem of classroom shortages due to rapid increase of pupils’ enrolment.
Principals became educational beggars, knocking on doors of local and national politicians who would help in the construction of additional school buildings year after year. Parent-Teachers Association complemented the efforts in coming up with small projects like donating facilities which the school needs and raising funds for the school improvements.

Today, Bayanan Elementary School has 11 buildings containing 48 classrooms managed by a principal and 84 licensed professional teachers.
In consonance with the Department of Education, Bayanan Elementary School aims to be a catalyst of change in the community it serves. It commits itself to promote to the fullest the potentials of children to be productive citizens of the country, as future family heads in a wider community of the church and the country.

To provide quality education, prepare pupils academically for higher learning and transform them into productive, morally and spiritually upright citizens.
